TV Not Turning On? 8 Common Causes and Fixes
1. Power Cable or Socket Issue
Before assuming the worst, check the simple things: is the power cable firmly connected? Is the wall socket working? Try plugging another device into the same socket.
2. Faulty Power Adapter
If your TV uses an external power adapter, the adapter itself may have failed. This is common in smaller LED TVs. Test with a known working adapter of the same voltage.
3. Blown Fuse
Many TVs have an internal fuse that protects against power surges. A blown fuse is inexpensive to replace but requires opening the TV. Do not attempt this yourself unless you have electronics experience.
4. Power Supply Board Failure
The power supply board converts AC to the DC voltages the TV needs. When it fails, the TV gets no power. This is one of the most common TV failures. Typical repair cost: ₹800-1,500.
5. Motherboard Issue
If the power supply is fine but the TV still won't turn on, the motherboard may have failed. Sometimes it is a capacitor issue that can be repaired; sometimes the board needs replacement.
6. Capacitor Aging
Capacitors age and swell over time, especially in warm climates like Hyderabad. Swollen capacitors on the power board prevent the TV from booting. Replacing capacitors is usually economical.
7. Standby Light Not Coming On
If the standby light doesn't come on when you press power, the issue is almost always power-related. If the standby light is on but TV doesn't boot, the issue is likely in the mainboard or backlight.
8. Firmware Corruption
Rare but possible — a corrupted firmware can prevent boot. Fix usually requires reflashing via USB or service mode.
