TV Has Sound But No Picture — What It Means
Why Sound Works But Picture Doesn't
When you hear audio but see nothing, it means the TV's mainboard (which handles both audio and video) is at least partially working. The problem is in the video chain — the part that processes and displays the picture.
Common Causes
1. Backlight Failure
The most common cause. The picture is actually being displayed, but the backlight (which lights up the LCD panel) has failed. Shine a flashlight at the screen from an angle in a dark room — if you see faint image, this is confirmed.
2. T-Con Board Failure
The T-Con board controls the panel. When it fails, the panel gets no signal — black screen.
3. Mainboard Video Output Failure
The mainboard may be sending audio but no video signal. This is less common but happens.
4. Panel Failure
Rare but possible. The panel itself may have failed.
Quick Diagnosis
The flashlight test is the fastest way to know: if you see faint image with flashlight, it's a backlight issue (most common and most economical to fix). If not, it's likely a T-Con or mainboard issue.
Typical Repair Cost
Backlight repair: ₹1,200-2,800 (depends on size). T-Con board: ₹1,500-3,000. Mainboard: ₹2,000-4,500. Panel: usually not economical.
